Wicked Mint

July 27th, 2006 by Matt

Wicked Mint was founded in 2005 by a bunch of Los Angeles-based stand-up comedians who had lots of time on their hands while they waited 23 hours between their sets at clubs like the Ice House, the Improv, the Comedy Store and Laugh Factory each night (Trust us, even in LA there’s only so much partying you can do).

All the designs and concepts on this site are the brainchild of actual working stand-ups – A comedian even drew the artwork. That being said, when you buy a shirt from Wicked Mint, you can be sure it’s funny.

Our shirts are printed on Alternative Apparel, which for the uninformed, are exponentially softer than any other shirts you’ll find anywhere else on the web. There are truly no words to explain how incredibly soft these shirts are, but if we had to make one up right now we’d say Alternative Apparel shirts are “softastic”.

Another suprise came in the mail today, a site we weren’t expecting and had not talked to. Wicked Mint. As you might have read in the above text, it was started by some comedians in Los Angeles. Well it was a good suprise, I like their designs and they sent the right sizes.

A following review will come soon with the shirts they sent.

Rock n Roll

July 26th, 2006 by Matt

Another shirt from Steve Rosswick, but this one is a Polo, and I love it. We don’t get a ton of Polo’s on here, but they really are just as easy to wear as t-shirts and you can then look semi dressed up. This one is good for a party or club atmosphere. It features a pocketsized logo on the front and a large logo on the back, it’s my only Polo I own that looks like this.

Comes in both men and women’s, doesn’t shrink much, and is on an Ash Grey polo that is both soft and of good quality.

Price: $20

Find X.

July 25th, 2006 by Matt

Math can be funny… every once in a blue moon, and this is one of those cases.

I think it’s funny, and so does Steve Rosswick, who the shirt comes from. Great quality. I like the detail such as the random graph lines around the shirt, not just the main design and a plain white tee.

Manifest Brand – Spring / Summer 2006

July 23rd, 2006 by Matt

Manifest is back, thank whoever you pray to!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Manifest Brand clothing? I think I have, about a thousand times.

They’re back, with a Spring / Summer 2006 line that will blow you away.

THE LONG AWAITED MANIFEST SPRING/ SUMMER 2006 COLLECTION IS FINALLY HERE AND READY TO ROLL. YES I KNOW I’M A LITTLE LATE GETTING THE NEW SITE UPDATED, BUT PEOPLE ARE SAYING IT’S WORTH THE WAIT. SO FAR, IT’S LOOKING TO BE THE BEST SEASON YET AND IS A HUGE HIT WITH STORES ALREADY SELLING OUT OF CERTAIN STYLES.

FOR THOSE THAT ARE NEW OR NEED AN UPDATE, THE MANIFEST BRAND IS A BOUTIQUE LABEL DEDICATED TO THE OLD SCHOOL OR GOLDEN AGE OF HIP HOP. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF HIP HOP AND THIS IS THE PERFECT VEHICLE FOR ME TO PAY TRIBUTE OR EDUCATE SOMEONE ON THE GREATS THAT HAVE INFLUENCED OUR TIME.

SO WITH ALL THAT SAID, IT’S TIME TO GET CRACKIN AND SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR THE OLD SCHOOL AND AS ALWAYS………….. STAY FRESH DRESSED LIKE A MILLION BUCKS.

Steve Rosswick

July 21st, 2006 by Matt

Do you know Steve Rosswick? Yah I didn’t either until someone told me about his site.

Apparently Steve is more then just a clothing designer, he’s also an actor and does TV and Film work.

The Steve Rosswick Collection was created on two simple principles: Fashion should not cost an arm and a leg, and Fashion should be for everyone. Keeping this in mind, Steve Rosswick created a clothing line that has something for everyone. Creating his own niche in the Fashion industry, Steve has implemented various design techniques from all over and put them into one place. Urban, Retro, Contemporary and Abstract designs are all examples of the different characteristics his creations encompass.

Starting in November 2004, Steve started his business from the ground up, doing everything he needed to succeed. While he now has help, he still does most of it himself, including Designing, Formatting, the actual shirt Printing, Customer Service, Public Relations and Marketing, Managing and even creating and maintaining this website.

The Collection: By Steve Rosswick, the new sophisticate label launched in Spring 2005 features Men’s attire that includes Dressy Shirts and Cabana wear. Each fabric is hand picked by Steve Rosswick and assembled in-house by Steve Rosswick Collection seamstress, Tatiana.

The next two updates will be about some shirts and a polo that Steve sent.

GARUDA

July 19th, 2006 by Matt

The other sweet arse tee from CUSTOM Industries is “GARUDA”. While I’m not sure what that means, I got the following from Wikipedia.

In Hindu mythology, Garuḍa is the name of a lesser Hindu divinity, the mount (vahanam) of Vishnu (one of the main forms of God in Hinduism). Garuḍa is depicted as having a golden body, white face, red wings, and an eagle’s beak and wings but a man’s body. He wears a crown on his head like his master, Vishnu. He is ancient and huge, and can block out the sun.

Ok well thats sweet and all, but in the end the point is that it makes for a sweet indie style design for a sweet shirt. This shirt has what I call “outside stitching” around the seams which gives it a unique apperance. At first you might say, hey that shirt is on backwards, then you see the design and realize thats how its meant to be worn, and it kicks ass. Pre-wash the XL shirt was a bit tight around the arms, but perfect for the length and baggyness of the chest and stomach. The printing can again only be described as “quality”. You don’t feel it, it doesn’t bleed through, and is not visible nor can it be felt on your chest.

Devil Dance

July 18th, 2006 by Matt

“All of our products are made of the finest cotton and poly/cotton blends. The shirts are all tagless for added comfort and many are embellished with additional contrast cover stitching. The screen prints have a soft hand feel, and hold up well after multiple washes. Each graphic comes with a unique hang tag that describes a bit about the inspiration for the design.”

That’s what CUSTOM has to say about their shirts. This shirt “Devil Dance” is a thermal shirt, which won’t get a TON of use here in Florida, but will look very stylish when it gets a bit chilly (under 70F). I love the stitching on the outside, and the quality of the print is superb.

I recieved an XL version of this shirt and pre-wash it was a bit baggy on me, which made me comfortable that after a wash it would still fit. The arm length is perfect on the XL for someone with extremely long arms such as myself at 6’4″. The thermal aspect of the shirt wasn’t overly hot inside the house, but would be too warm for wear in the bright sun, high humidity enviornment of a Florida summer.

This is the first thermal tee we’ve ever recieved and I have to say, the printing had me worried due to the texture, but this shirt looks amazing. There is no cracking or flaking even on the textured thermal.

Custom Industries

July 17th, 2006 by Matt

Custom Industries blew me away with their designs. They aren’t your “typical” clothing company, and when I say that I mean they don’t just feature some regular bought American Apparel or such shirts with a screen-printed design.

CUSTOM Industries is a globally inspired streetwear brand whose aesthetic reflects the quest for adventure and the discovery of the obscure. CUSTOM is about individuality AND community, living life on the road and off-the-beaten path. Respect for the familiar and the unusual; opening eyes and minds to peoples, places and cultures from around the world, and in our own backyards.

They kick so much ass I’m going to give each of the two shirts they sent, their own update, so stay tuned. I want to wash and test out these shirts fully since they are so unique.

Loaded Wings

July 16th, 2006 by Matt

We haven’t featured a girls shirt in a while and I’m sorry for that. I hope this makes up for our slacking, since the shirt is awesome.

Concrete Hermit wanted us to be sure to remind you that there are guns in the wings of the butterfly, which I might not have noticed had they not said something. There are 8 revolvers in the wings that make up most of the design. This shirt is SMALL. When I say small, I mean I don’t know how girls fit into these things, but they do. Can’t wait to see it on one of my friends.

Monkey Brains

July 15th, 2006 by Matt

This shirt doesn’t have a name listed on the site, but by the URL, I’m going to assume it’s called Monkey Brains. It’s brought to you by Concrete Hermit.

The shirt is a Large and pre-wash it felt perfect, . The quality of the print is one that is so good, I’d put it almost at the top of what we’ve seen. The solid black is covering a lot of the shirt and there is no sandpaper like texture, its 100% smooth and solid, no gaps or variences.

Concrete Hermit

July 14th, 2006 by Matt

As some people know, my online Alias is “DHermit”, so when I saw Concrete Hermit, my interest peaked a little to see what they were all about.

“Punk is an attitude not an aesthetic”

We are no longer sure what real is, but we’ll do our best to keep it real.

WE ARE POST-NEO-OLD-SKOOL.

We are not fashion, and we are not anti-fashion. Here at Concrete Hermit we want to create an option, not an alternative. Options can change, alter and adapt. Alternatives are set and static in their opposition. Whether it’s opposition to fashion, music or politics. Alternatives are easily deprived of their power by being assimilated into the mainstream.

The Concrete Hermit was started in 2004 as a way for designers and artists to realise their ideas for T-shirt designs without having to face prohibitive start up costs. As many of our designs are produced in strictly limited editions you can be assured of an individual product not to be found anywhere else. We have rapidly expanded to produce badges and now stock a range of books.

Key To My Heart

July 13th, 2006 by Matt

I wanted to do this shirt by Option-G as a seperate update because I love it so much.

Although I recieved it printed on a Light Blue (My least favorite t-shirt color besides pink/purple), it still kicks ass. The shirt features a can of PBR, generically labeled as “Beer”, with some text in red, white, and blue that reads “Key To My Heart”. And it’s so true, beer is the key to my heart. This will be my choice apparel for my next party.

Also printed on American Apparel, buy a size up.

South Korea’s Got Soul

Option-G Clothing

July 10th, 2006 by Matt

Another design studio / t-shirt company that we were key’d into is Option-G. They have fresh designs that I know people will love, and I’m sure this company will grow in the future.

This is my favorite shirt by them:

Fatal Error
T-Shirt

Slim-fitting cotton tee with screen print
* 100% cotton
* Machine Wash
* Made in the USA
SIZES
Mens: S/M/L/XL
Price: $23.50

It’s printed on American Apparel, so buy a size up. The print quality is a little rough, as in texture, but seems like it will hold up fine in the wash. Very soft, and I love the color of the shirt and the tones of the grey in the printing.

Outlaw Clothing

July 9th, 2006 by Matt

Famous friends Pete Whitney and Joel Peterson are the dual operators of OUTLAW Print Company. They founded their business in August of 2003 upon the premise of independant ownership, total creative freedoms and a true explorer’s zest for boundless limitations. Between the two of them, Pete and Joel brought to the table a total of 11 Madden Super Bowl titles (using 4 different teams), 2 Stanley Cups (2 teams), exactly 3.5 years of college education, 1 World Bicycle Messenger Association titles (in the category of Cargo Carrier), 1 appearance on the late and internationally known John Peel Show on BBC Radio (U.K.), visitation to 13 different countries and 49 U.S. states, and $100 in start-up capital. They chose the name OUTLAW in regards to the idea that they could do whatever they wanted. 2.5 years later they are quite pleased to be situated in an ample workshop in the lovely Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, PA with not only a booming production business printing posters and t-shirts, but also a lights-out exciting T-Shirt label of their own.

This company has some… interesting designs. It’s not my flavor, but it must be someones and we don’t hate on anyone else’s style here at TShirtReview.

Here’s a few samples of their designs:

This company reminds me of the shirts you’d see in a movie such as Napolean Dynamite or Nacho Libre… it has that “weird’ vibe to it. The actual quality of the t-shirts range. The colored shirts were pretty soft and good quality, with some shrinking, but the white tee we recieved felt like an undershirt and was almost see-through.

Outlaw is also more then just a tshirt company, they also do printing of your designs, so check them out for that aspect as well.

Right now, they don’t have their shirts for sale… and I’m not sure why, but Joel had this to say “We currently do not have anything for sale on our website, but that will hopefully be changing in the next couple of weeks… Thanks alot!”

Flippin Bricks – MONEY MAKER TSHIRT

July 8th, 2006 by Matt

You don’t know me, you don’t know my style! I’m flippin bricks in the trap…

This is another fresh tee from ShmacK clothing, which is one of my new favorites. This shirt has the flippin bricks design on the front, the trademark blue fabric on the shoulder, and some gold bricks on the back. The shirt shrinkage was almost a fullsize, so order a size up.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

July 6th, 2006 by Matt

Sic semper tyrannis is a Latin phrase meaning “Thus always to tyrants” or “Thus ever be to tyrants”. It is the state motto of Virginia (and also that of the USS Virginia). The Seal of the state of Virginia shows Virtue, sword in hand, with her foot on the prostrate form of Tyranny, whose crown lays nearby. The Seal was designed by George Wythe, who signed the Declaration of Independence and taught the Law to Thomas Jefferson.

Recommended by George Mason to the Virginia Convention in 1776, the phrase is attributed to Brutus at the assassination of Julius Caesar. Also, according to some witnesses, John Wilkes Booth shouted it after shooting Abraham Lincoln in 1865. In his mug shots following the Oklahoma City Bombing, Timothy McVeigh is wearing a shirt with a picture of Lincoln on it and “Sic Semper Tyrannis” written below.

In the popular sitcom Seinfeld, the character “Crazy” Joe Davola (played by Peter Crombie) shouts this before attempting to attack Jerry Seinfeld (although it is incorrectly translated by Jerry as, “Death to Tyrants”.)

This shirt is one from Shmack Clothing and it kicks ass. Not only for its symbolic meaning and such, but the overall quality is AMAZING on this shirt. The littliest detail of painting is covered, with small splotches of paint, it really kicks ass and draws attention. I can’t even begin to say how many posisitive comments I got on this shirt.

Shmack Clothing

July 2nd, 2006 by Matt

Another day, another sweet clothing company is found and then thrust forth on you all! If you like Manifest Brand clothing(which will have their own post soon about a new line) that we’ve featured in the past, then I’m pretty sure you’re gonna like $hmack Clothing.

Here’s a bio about the company, and soon there will be a review for a couple shirts by them.

Shmack Clothing is a diverse brand that brings assorted styles and interests together. Creating a collection of garments that cross over a wide variety of genres, we appeal to the next generation of fashion forward consumers that are blurring the distinction of stereotypical style. Shmack is accepted on a widening market that includes but not exclusive to urban warriors, sneaker heads, vagabond hipsters, rude boys, disgruntled artists, ballers, vandals, rockers, emcees, militants, head bangers, and the common hustler.

Shmack started as a partnership between two friends, based in Virginia Beach, aimed to discharge their artistic flair on men’s clothing. Shmack’s talent continued through their non- traditional marketing strategies. To kick start the clothing line, broadsheets, featuring images such as King Kong, Mr. T and Mike Tyson, popped up overnight on vacant storefronts around the oceanfront. Soon Shmack became the buzz of the beach.

Shortly after, the first line of T shirts was released. Retailers noticed the wide demand for the eccentric prints, vibrant colors, and designs inspired by Japan, sneaker culture and hip- hop. As knowledge of the company spread, so did the business. Within the first year, Shmack made its way into surf and skate shops, sneaker boutiques, national retain chains and Japan. Today, Shmack combines contrasting fabrics, bold graphics, and quality design to offer their consumers everything from face mask hoodies and couture T shirts, to clean Japanese denim.

Appealing to all lifestyles, Shmack’s focus is to generate a creative ready- to- wear line with active lifestyle clothing merging function, fashion, and quality. Currently, Shmack Clothing is carried at only the finest retailers worldwide.
