“Robots” by Huskworks

August 31st, 2005 by _Wheels03

This shirt is definitely a rare find. With only a limited number of prints available, I jumped at the oppurtunity of owning “Robots” by Huskworks. You may have seen some of his previous work at Threadless (i.e. Rayguns and The Moops). Prints are avaiable (yet very limited) at Owlmovement.com, which also includes the work of both Secret Pizza Party and Jon Know Griffin. I’m not sure if that’s for each design, but let’s just say you’d better buy one now before they run out. This first series is known as ‘future perfect’ and each series will include new themes and artists bringing their t-shirt designing skills to the table. Be sure to visit the site frequently for new and interesting shirts.
-Wheels

Fun Fact: The white ink that appears on “Robots” actually glows in the dark…

AE Destroyed Pocket T

August 30th, 2005 by Glynn

American Eagle is coming back. Erm… going back. Sometimes, you don’t need funny lines, or pictures with a double meaning. It is all about the stitching, or in this case, destroyed and deconstructed stitching. What ever happened to those shirts with the pocket on the front. American Eagle must have overheard me saying that a few months back, cos here it is in a variety of exagerated colors such as: Seal, Coconut Brown, Mission Green, Water, Marina Blue, and Siesta Orange. Simple, plain (or bold if you go with the green or orange), and elegant. Old School 80′s. So continue your lies of being an 80′s child, and buy this.

Woah, maybe a little too intense?

August 28th, 2005 by Matt

So I open the mail today to find a shirt stuffed in a bag with 3 crying tiger cards, and 2 sweet crying tiger pins. I expect a sweet Cryin Tiger logo shirt from Cryin Tiger, but instead I get one of their alternate designs. I pull out the shirt, and with a weird look on my face I turn to my room mate and ask him what he thinks. To this he replied “Well I wouldn’t wear it”. But too bad, its not for him to decide! So I throw the shirt in the dryer to get some of the wrinkles out, and at this point I notice two things.
1. It’s a Large, and I wear XL (normally), but I decide to try it on anyhow.
2. It’s on a very thin, almost undershirt material, which is ok for Florida, but maybe a little too “tight”.

I have a party to go to, so I decide this is a good chance to give the tshirt a full break in. As soon as I walk in the door, say hello to my friend whose house it is, two girls look at me and say my shirt is gross and tasteless. I decide their opinions don’t count as they are rather… conservative. Onward! After talking to a few guys, we all come to the conclusion that this is a special shirt. This shirt is the kind that, 9 out of 10 girls will think you’re sick and gross for having, and the other 1 will want you right on the spot. That’s the best way to describe it. The image below is an actual image from the party with one of the dissatisfied girls.
-Matt

In conclusion, the shirt is quite accurate in nature, but perhaps a bit much for average daily wears, unless you don’t care who you offend at all!!! Especially girls.
The shirt is also available in Light Blue.

Tan-Ringer Model

Ah, the 70′s. Ah… 70′s catch phrases inching their way back into our lives. Ah… African starvation. All of this wrapped into one humorous t-shirt under 20 dollars? I know! Say it isn’t so! Coming in Olive and a Tan ringer (no extra charge to be “extra metrosexual!”), and at a reasonable price, you can be fantastically supportive of Angelina Jolie’s, eh, causes too!

Hungry Hungry Hippo

August 26th, 2005 by Glynn

As children, we would pound the tails of four hippos, in a race to eat as many of the white marbles as we could–as fast as we could. With this original shirt, Busted Tees raises the question, what if those hippos weren’t as hungry as we made them out to be? Printed on American Apparel clothing, so I strongly suggest buying this quality T-Shirt. I recommend getting the lemon version as well (Silver and lemon shown).

Social Engineering Specialist

August 25th, 2005 by Matt

Being able to convince others of your views, morals, and getting them to do things you want… isn’t manipulation. A nicer term is “Social Engineering”. I know that I for one, have the gift of social engineering. Perhaps the greatest social engineer of all time is Kevin Mitnick. This post is a tribute to him.

Wikipedia defines Social Engineering, when relating to computers, as “In the field of computer security, social engineering is the practice of obtaining confidential information by manipulation of legitimate users. A social engineer will commonly use the telephone or Internet to trick people into revealing sensitive information or getting them to do something that is against typical policies. By this method, social engineers exploit the natural tendency of a person to trust his or her word, rather than exploiting computer security holes. It is generally agreed upon that “users are the weak link” in security and this principle is what makes social engineering possible.”

A T-Shirt Representing Your First Date?

August 23rd, 2005 by Jesse

We all remember it. It was tragic. You took your then-girlfriend (she has now probably moved on to people who decided to get a degree) to a bowling alley. You had some nachos, maybe a Pepsi, and seven Dance Dance Revolution rounds later, you were playing next to the greasiest Latino guy you’ve ever layed eyes on.

Jesus is the Kingpin

Sure, bowling league tryouts didn’t start until November, but Jesus was there in June trying to score the perfect game and hoping that the soda jerk would tell the top bowling scouts about his magnificant bowling capabilities, and the ability to turn your $.25 glass of water into a $15 glass of wine. Every strike will seem like a miracle.

This Reminds Me Of A Story…

August 21st, 2005 by Matt

Like to talk? Moreso about your self so much that your friends are sick of hearing it? This is your shirt. I wore this shirt out and at least 15 people asked me to tell them “a story” and so I told them about this site, TShirtReview. It’s a great way to meet new people and start a new conversation. You could meet your significant other just by wearing this shirt, isn’t that priceless?!!
The shirt itself is printed on Fruit Of The Loom – Heavy Cotton. Its a very soft shirt with a good feel and did shrink when washed. We were sent the XL version, and its the perfect size, not tight anywhere. The printing is done with high quality, and doesn’t seem to be able to peel off at all. The text also did not bleed through so its not irritable to the skin. This is my new party shirt.

Save for half damage!

August 20th, 2005 by Sloneybaloney

This next shirt is another choice, notable to the connesuiers out there in that it features a picture of Jesus drawn by Erol Otus, who also did artwork for The Keep on the Borderlands, a classic 2nd edition module. It’s of note for this, but I didn’t like it as much because of the visual, and I feel the “only” also detracts from the humor.

New Mexico: Cleaner Than Regular Mexico

August 19th, 2005 by Glynn

Mexico used to be a great place. Used to be safe. Now, between the growing crime rate and the cursed water, it has gone to hell. Which is why it is perfect to go down and party… But let’s not get crazy and think we are going to stay there; especially since we have the new version, New Mexico. Sure I just sucked all the fun out of the shirt, but the people you interact with don’t know that. It is made on American Apparell, but this particular shirt runs a little smaller than usual. So if you are a medium, go with a large. I suggest getting the brown ringer for a dollar extra. Style points are everything – in a metrosexual world.

Jesus rolls 20s

August 18th, 2005 by Sloneybaloney

This shirt is based in the realms of shadowy basements and cheeto-stained forearms. It’s a Dungeons and Dragons joke about the well-known savior, playing on a popular saying.
The incarnation(there are several different versions) I own can be found here.
Possible issues include the fact that the phrase reads “… the rest of you take damage” instead of my preference, “… and takes half/no damage.” I chose this shirt in spite of the text because I was very fond of the color style and font, as well as the fact that all the content was on the front where I like it.

Lady Killer

August 16th, 2005 by Matt

One of the first companies to send us t-shirts for review is “DURKL:Get with us, condoms not included”.
This retro style t-shirt design company contains many shirts that you might find people wearing during the 80′s, with a slight twist. Whether that twist is being offensive, sexy, or just plain odd(see a later review of the chest-hair shirt).

So I opened the soft packaged large envelope style packaging to find two folded shirts. Mine is a very light blue, turquoise, XL shirt. I’m 6’4″ and I slipped on the shirt and the first thing I noticed was a little bit of a bunch in the arms. The length once I pulled the shirt fully on was great, just like an XL, but the sleeves were very tight for an XL, which means an Extra Large person, I felt like the sleeves were meant to be sewn on a Small or Medium. There is no room for any kind of space between my arms and the shirt. Some people like that thing though! But those people usually order Small or Medium.

DURKL has great potential, and there were some designs I really wish we had gotten, but I’d still wear this shirt. It’s OJ Simpson leaning on the big letters of “LADY KILLER”. Good graphic, well printed, haven’t washed it yet to give it the test of time.

When I wore this out to the movies, I had a couple people say it was a very clever shirt, and one girl taking tickets said “That shirt is awesome, you just made my night”. Thats a direct quote.

Heroes in an Artshell!

August 15th, 2005 by Jesse

We all remember the craze. I’m sure the parents of now-teenagers really remember the disgusting and potentially financially damaging amounts of money they spent on memorobilia really remember the craze.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

That’s right folks, those pizza-scarfing turtles that lived in sewers and fought evil samurai are back. Sort of. Threadless has a new shirt out. It’s of the artists that the TMNT were named after, in classic TMNT masks. Truely a wonderful print.

More Cowbell!

August 14th, 2005 by Glynn

Five years ago, Saturday Night Live spoofed the making of Blue Öyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper.” In a skit with Will Ferrell’s character pounding on the cowbell, and Christopher Walken’s character telling the band “I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is … more cowbell!” This shirt is more of a cult classic, but the saying has become widely popular since the SNL: The Best of Will Ferrell debut on DvD in 2003. Get your hands on this shirt, and remind your friends that it would be better with… well, More Cowbell

Control Z Came

August 13th, 2005 by Matt

A new package arrived on my doorstep, and I hapily opened it to find my Control Z shirt. I wore it out that night to the movies and got a few compliments on it from people who looked like they actually understood what control z means. Even my mother said she liked the shirt, even though she didn’t understand it. I got the Xl and it fits me great at 6 foot 4 inches tall and 190 lbs. The pictures that follow are actual pictures of me wearing it, and my dirty car that needs to be in a wreck so I can get a new one.

OMG Clothing!!

August 12th, 2005 by patrickisboring

Not a review of a shirt, but equally important… If you dig what Threadless.com does and like their shirts you’re sure to enjoy OMGClothing.com. Similar to threadless its all based around what you would wear. Here’s how the site works(taken from omg site):

“Simply submit a slogan you would like to see on an OMG tee and if a lot of people say they’d wear it, we’ll hire a designer to make it happen!….”

So it’s that simple kids. Head over there are start submitting some slogans and scoring submissions…. and buy some nice shirts!!

For almost anyone alive today, they remember playing a game called “Operation” while growing up, I know I did! Neighborhoodies.com!

August 6th, 2005 by Jesse

Have you ever wanted your own clothing line? Something that says “Hey, I designed what I’m wearing” and nobody can dispute that? Well, since Threadless is full of elitests with too high of standards, A Neighborhoodie is the next best thing, especially if you’re of the female half of the species. Sure, they have great things for guys as well, but girls can make their own panties, and that alone is enviable.

Specializing in custom sweatshirts, and pressing anything you want onto just about anything (tote bags, t-shirts, tank tops, hoodies, panties, and even shirts for dogs) it’s exactly what you would want from a clothing company aside from the price. The clothing do run a little expensive, especially if you want something elaborate. A hoodie costs about 50 bucks, and a t-shirt usually can run to about 30. But damn, do they end up nice.

I’m ordering a hoodie soon for the mean streets of Denver, but I’ll be representing my hometown in Southern California where I lived for 15 years.
